Remember

1. Make sure that your new server has all the same SPs as the existing farm.

2. You can do this manually, or by means of creating a slipstream with SP1 if you would prefer. Just be sure that you verify the server to be added is the same version as the servers to which it will be added.

3. For each language template pack installed on the server that renders the content you’ll need to install updated Language Packs (LPs).

4. For each template you have, an update must be installed. When you’re done, don’t sign off before you verify the update completed properly via the Upgrade.log. Check :\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\LOGS for the latest Upgrade.log.

5. Look for these entries: Finished upgrading SPFarm Name= Inplace upgrade session finishes. Root object = SPFarm=, recursive = True. 0 errors and 0 warnings encountered. Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled for terms like ‘error’ or ‘fail’ in the upgrade logs.
